First of all, I am sick and tired of people putting the pervision thoughts in association with breast feeding. That is sick in any form. 2ndly, I agree, these children are way too old to be breastfed and the psychological damages have already begun, never mind what will come in their future. Not because of "perversion" issues as some speak below, but because even animals know they must ween their young at a proper age to prepare them to be young children. This mother did do a wonderful thing breastfeeding her children, but they should have been weaned a long time ago. The one child is doing it now for comfort and closeness? There are other ways that the children can find comfort and closeness to their mother. A security blanket or favorite stuffed animal for example. They can sit and cuddle on the sofa and read a book together which is more age appropriate than breast feeding. Reading to your children can also help with their intelligence. It helps teach them to read and foster a lifetime love of reading and learning. Get her off the breast!

I've read naural weaning occurs at 3 or 4 years. It may seem excessive at 5 and 8, but I saw nothing about breastfeeding longer changing a child's sexual preference. We know who we are sexually at very young ages. I'd be interested in hearing from a psychologist on this topic.

My comment is that I feel very sorry for the children in this case. I had seen this "interview" before on tv before about 2 years ago...and I am wondering if she is still breast feeding her child now at 10. I feel sorry for the children because they now will most likely be teased in school and other social settings. This mother most likely does home schooling with her children as well, so I am assuming that there is limited interaction with other children their age on a daily basis. I can't imagine the childrens' horror when the actually do speak with other children and realize that this is NOT normal and will be seen as outcasts. Could you imagine a playdate with another child and for some reason the children have a disagreement, then her daughter has no other coping skills when she is upset and says, "Mommy!! She hurt my feelings!!! I need my your breast to make me feel better!" Being a Mother has MANY responsibilities and telling your child "NO" is a huge part of that. Many times it hurts us to have to tell our children "No." but in the end, we are the Mothers who are responsible for teaching right and wrong. I was breast fed, 1 of 5 that my mother breast fed. hers ended when you bit her twice, that's it. B/F babies are much more well developed than not, physically, emotionally, and psychologically. Their mature lives are much better balanced and successful. Now that I am adult, breasts are no longer a part of my nutrition, but a part of my sex life, and it is wonderful. To me it's a little gross, but that's just how I feel about it. I breastfeed, so the idea of it alone does not bother me, just seeing some big kid laying there nursing is just gross to me. However, I do think that there are far worse things that could be going on, because the world is a screwed up place. Although my personal opinion is that 3 to 4 years of age is long enough to breast feed a child, I must add that it is BY FAR NOT the worst thing that a mother can do to her child. So many children are abused and neglected, are born to crack/alcohol addicted mothers, are dumped in daycares before they reach the age a 4 weeks. Yes, I think that 8 years is too long and these girls will have to endure the fall-out of public opinion for it for the rest of their lives (which will probably do more harm than the actual breastfeeding). Its odd, because if you look at todays society, their is more violence in schools, more diseases in children. Kids have asthma, bronchitis, ADD, and psychological disorders. I am very upset that you are still breastfeeding. You take all the beauty out of something meant to be healthy and beautiful and bonding between a mother and her newborn baby. I breastfed my baby until she was 7 1/2 months old. I would have loved to continue until she was 12 months (absolutely no longer) but babies start to bite(even before they have teeth) even without teeth they hurt. I don't understand how or why you would continue this. I pumped for another month and my baby had breast milk until she was 9 months adding formula until she was 12 months. I have heard of women breastfeeding until their baby was 24 months because they are still babies but not exclusively- but then they become toddlers. Enough is enough- if you can tell your child "no monkey business" then she is too old to breastfeed. I understand that this may be the way you live but please understand as healthy as you think this is is how unhealthy a lot of people think it is not. Your children should not be drawing pictures of your breasts nor naming them- they should be naming pets or dolls and they should be drawing the trees blowing in the wind or the animals in the zoo or what they enjoy doing at school, they should be writing short stories and making believe- using their imagination but by no means should they be fixated on your breasts. I think this isn't only the mom feeling that the kids want it. I think its also the mothers attatchment of being wanted. Shes able to provide her kids with something others can't and I think she enjoys that. Personally I would not breastfeed a 7 year old but honestly I think that is because our society doesn't accept it. You can look at the comments posted and see that our society are raised to see this as "sexual abuse". Many cultures breastfeed children until the child reaches puberty, using a wet nurse or by the parent. The child will only see this a sexual if you teach them it is, there is nothing wrong with what this mother is doing and these children will not want to breastfeed forever. I bet if we were to check the IQ of these children in 5 years, they will be way higher than average. I am a doctor of Peds and I do not see anything wrong with this practice, except the ignorance of the US society.

I'm a aunt of 6 but a early childhood educator for 10 whole years!! What I've learned that breast feeding is good but there's a limit! Non of my sisters breast fed my nephews nor my niece for more than 6 months according to all their pdeiatricians. A couple of my friends did breast fed their children longer than that but they all stop after their kids turned 1, never longer than that! Anyone who do that is just "sick"!! There is absolutely no benefit to either the the mother nor to the baby! If there is any benefit, it is only to the perverted mind of the mother but not to any health benefit for the baby! Doing that would just confused the child's mind!! If you want nutrition for the kids, there are a lot of nutritious foods you can introduce your kids to, & expend their taste buds! Admittedly, in the US, it's common to stop breastfeeding earlier than what's probably good for the child, but still, there's just a point where enough is enough. There comes a point where the breast milk isn't really helping the child any longer, and an eventual point where this girl is going to be highly embarassed when her peers learn she's still breast feeding.

There comes a time when a baby bird gets pushed out of it's nest. Of course it shouldn't happen too early. That would be unhealthy and dangerous for the chick... But that having been said, the chick doesn't get to choose to stay in the nest as long as it wants. Kids don't choose when to start school. Kids don't choose when to stop wearing diapers. They barely even choose when to start walking and talking, because walking and talking is so encouraged, as it should be. If a child grows up and doesn't move out of the house, a responsible parent will encourage the child to do so. If the child still does not move out, a responsible parent will force the child to move out. A parent who, because of his or her own problems, has trouble letting go...who, because of his or her own problems, has trouble letting their child grow up will allow his or her child to live at home as long as he or she wants. That's what this woman is doing. She's not letting go. I'm guessing she's still breast feeding her child not for her child's sake, but for her own sake... It's not sexual on either end, it's just that she's afraid that if her children grow up, she won't be important anymore. If they grow up and become independent, she loses her self-worth. She is not, as one comment said, showing dedication to her children. She is not going above and beyond for her children. She is trying to fill a void. She is being selfish. Come on people first of all you didn't see the entire video when it was aired on TV they talked to pediatricions (sp) and experts. Even though in the US breastfeeding is usually quit by the childs first birthday in most of the other counrties it can continue years, although it is very unusual to see an 8-year old child still breastfeeding because usually four is the average age outside of the US. This woman is still producing milk because that is the way a womans body is designed as long as the breast are kept stimulated through pumping or breastfeeding they will produce milk (it amazing that so many people do not know that. This woman gets no sexual gratification out of breast feeding because it is not a sexual act it is a kind nurturing act. The doctors said that even though it is unusual it is not harmful. You may see it as sick and disgusting but the children see it as comforting, the thing that disturbs me is the picture drawing, the fact that the children were walking in on her getting dressed and she had to set down rules so that they did not play with her breasts as she gets dressed. Although I would never dream of breasteeding any of my children as long as she has she isn't harming the children. So people need to realize that this child will stop I am sure within the next couple of years, and even though this woman has taken breastfeeding to am extreme it is not because she is twisted or sick and it is not molestation, or sexual in any nature. I think that breast feeding until school age is absolutely insane. What kind of thoughts are these children going to have when they are adults. I think she is right. Children should decide when to stop breast feeding... normally a child chooses to stop by school age, but obviously her daughter still needs that bond. I do not think that it is wrong. I am a mother two girls, 3 and 1 and I am breastfeeding both of them. They have an attachment to it and like it. I think children shoud decide for themselves when it should end. When children are weaned too early it can produce stress to them. The stress can manifest itself in several ways like nail biting or self-pulling hair. I do not mind breastfeeding and I feel lke it is the best gift, besides life, I could give to my children.

That's the average, because MANY cultures breastfeed to 7 or 8 as a standard and many cultures only 6 months or a year. OK breast feeding from the breast over the age 2 shouldn't be done, If a mom feels that it will help them progress better in life by having breast milk then they should pump it then give it to them in a cup. Not drirectly from her breast. Test have shown that breast milk is better. That doesnt meen that you need them to drink from the breast. That is why they invented the pump. I understand giving your child nurturing time but she should pump.

Different strokes for different folks. Live and let live. I know of nowhere where there is a law against breastfeeding at any age. I fed 3 babies who are now young men and I don't think I could have made them feed past 1 year. That doesn't mean it shouldn't be done. If done in the home in privacy with Mom calling the shots, why should anyone else care? I do think she is right:not anyone is feeding when they enter college, so letteralone. It would be intersting to know if anyone has in fact called their version of child welfare or discussed this perceived problem with a pediatrician. If so, what did these professionals have to say about the situation? I believe that there are so many more more serious problems in protecting children that the instinct of the professionals contacted would be to laugh. If this feeding gives comfort to both parties, I seriously doubt that anyone willbe damaged by this practice, if done with paramters which protect both Mom and child.

Blessings to your home and family. It does not shock me in the least. I am a gay male, was breast fed and weened at 'correct' ages apparently. I do believe children should decide when to ween up to a point. I would not think it is needed at all after age five though. I can say age 5 only because once at that age, the child DOES go out into the world, per se, and does need to feel as though they belong and have common parentage. I think past age 5, if the children still desire the breast milk because of the taste and quality and you do not mind offering this milk for it's natural offerings, then a breast pump accomplishes this quite well. They can enjoy what they refer to as a beverage, your breastmilk. This is actually better than the milk we buy at the store I will stand firmly on, especially with goat's milk being drunk by adults. As for the act itself, it's more about comfort for the child which is fine, but that is what cuddling, sensual touch, hair tousling and such also accomplish. So the breast is merely a middle-man in this case, that's it. They want the taste and the comfort. They can acquire both in alternative ways. Some will say 5 is too old as well, but they would be wrong in most cases. Since it is a proven fact that our brains are STILL forming neural connections until 21, and we know that touch for children is paramount to their feelings of security, comfort, enjoyment and most importantly touch is ALSO a major factor in the neural connections I refer to. They WILL be smarter as a result in most cases, they will have a great sense of themselves, their bodies, etc. I would much prefer your method to the Puritanical based beliefs of the Western world who are always so sure they are right. I am a Westerner as well but do not agree with most of it's social morays and never will. I think I've done well at defending your side in this, as well as offering an alternative to going above ages where they are socializing with other children. Insulting and condeming this womam wont do anything except cause her to feel more defiant in her right to breastfeed her child. What I would like to say is, it just is'nt natural to do this. When you breast feed a baby, it never remembers at that young of an age. I breastfed both of my babies and at about 1 year, they both naturally got off the breast as they were able to eat regular foods. And for sure anything after 3 or 4, these children WILL remember EVERYTHING. I am worried that these girls will grow up wanting and craving the breast, never forgetting the pleasure of it. Sure...maybe 8 is a bit old but in very many cultures children are typically breastfed up through 5. I have never heard of any problems with children that are breatfed too long. Just for purposes of full disclosure...I hated breast feeding and stopped as soon as possible.

A couple years ago my family was invited to visit my husbands friends home. while wanting to use the rest room I opened the door was not locked and there stood a 5 year old standing on the toliet sucking on the mothers tit, I was so very shocked, this was a huge 5 year old the woman was young and needless to say very flat cheasted. Needless to say was never back. I breast fed my son until he was 8 months and I though that was way to long!

I think the only reason this woman is so comfortable with breastfeeding her children for so many years is because they are girls. With young girls, we can chalk up extended breast feeding to a form of the bond between a mother and a child. However, with a little boy, there would be serious psychological consequences for long-term breast feeding. Boys who breast feed for too long can have extremely warped opinions of what a woman is good for, and his future relationships with women will suffer. This is NOT okay.

OMG lady! What are you thinking? Breastfeeding is natural. Having an 8-year old climb up under your shirt for lunch is not. I feel SO sorry for your children....not today....in the years to come.

Ok..everyone is so stuck on saying that this is sick and all that bonding with the mother stuff. Has anyone even realized that the main reason for breastfeeding is for an INFANTS nutrtion.It is to make sure they get the immunities they need to survive. It has nothing to do with bonding. Thats just the mothers excuse to not stop doing it! She is corupting her children when they are in their most vulnerable state, they are children and it is the parents responsibility to teach them right and wrong! This woman has issues, SHE is to attached to let it go, not the children!

No one remembers breast feeding. But just imagine if you could remember. It's one thing to give them comfort now but when they can remember as an adult?? I have this one memory of walking into the bathroom and my mom had just gotten out of the bath. She had her leg on the tub and she was putting in a tampon. Everytime I think of it I want to die. I was probably about 10. At the time I was confused and didn't know what she was doing. But now that I know, it makes me sick to think of it. I don't know if a memory of her saggy breast in my mouth would be better or worse! Perception changes as you get older. It may be a comfort now, but when it's a memory to a 30 year old it could become something negative.

If it's for the nutritional benefits then why doesn't she pump the milk and put it in a cup?? These girls will have a weird view point toward breasts when they are older. Drawing pictures of breasts and being infatuated with breasts as a child, this intense, will cause strange fantasies as an adult in my opinion.

why not. let the kid decide, but at 16 then i think the parent can say enough.

This woman needs to be arrested. She's not doing this for the kids' beneit. It's pushing it to be breast-feeding a 2-year old. Once a child can feed itself that's it. This lady is sick.

Ok maybe 8 is a little too old already but even so I dont think there is nothing wrong if anything it make a stronger bond between the mother & child and it's something we need to have a special relationship with our kids.

This is entirely too old to still be breastfeeding. You normally get a baby off the BOTTLE by at least two years old. This is way overboard.

Just a little trivia for the "coo-koo". To breastfeed a toddler is pushing it, but, still in the normal range. Orangutans nurse their babies longest of all mammals - six years in the wild. So, she might be part orangutan!!! Lady, do your child and family a favor and change her name now and move schools before she becomes tormented by your actions for the rest of her life. Maybe you should have your daughter trade places with your husband and you won't have the need to breastfeed a teenager! Sick! Sick! Sick!

This seems to be a healthy relationship between mother and child. I wouldn't personally choose to breast feed that late in life. But the only reason it seems so "wrong" to us is because of the country and culture we live in which emphasizes the breast as sexual. Not all countries and cultures place that meaning on breasts. Its a hard concept to grasp but nevertheless its true.

That is horrible. You should not put those kids through something that will eventually be tramatic for them because your afraid to let go. Some day they will leave home and you can't detach a breast to send with them. To top it all off you have plastered their poor little faces all over the Internet for all to see and they are sure to be made fun of for a life time. That is the cruel fact of the world.

There is nothing wrong with breastfeeding a child. And her daughter is still a child. It happens all around the world , but we excuse it because they are third world countries. I applaud this woman for giving health, both physically and psychologically to her children.

i feel sorry for the kids, being able to name their moms breast should tell the mom theres something wrong. Mom let them off the nipple already!!!!!!!
